Roy is a mechanical engineer and experienced predictive-maintenance professional with more than 35 years of industrial experience and more than 20 years dedicated to condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.

His background includes advanced machinery vibration analysis, dynamic balancing, alignment, bearing diagnostics, lubrication, ultrasound and thermography. He has supported machinery reliability across industrial and commercial facilities while also training maintenance professionals in vibration analysis and machinery lubrication.

Machinery Vibration Analysis FAQs

Machinery vibration analysis involves collecting and evaluating vibration data from operating equipment to help identify abnormal mechanical conditions. The measurements may reveal patterns associated with imbalance, misalignment, looseness, bearing defects, drive problems, resonance and other machinery or process-related conditions.

 

Vibration measurements are commonly collected while machinery is operating under suitable and reasonably representative conditions. Certain inspections, confirmation checks or corrective work may require a planned shutdown. The appropriate approach depends on the machine, operating environment and purpose of the assessment.

There is no single monitoring interval suitable for every machine. Frequency should reflect asset criticality, failure history, operating conditions, production consequences and how quickly faults could develop. VibeLube can help establish practical monitoring intervals for selected assets.

Vibration analysis can identify developing conditions, track changes and support maintenance planning, but it cannot guarantee an exact failure date. Its value is in reducing uncertainty and helping maintenance teams act on measurable condition evidence before problems become more serious.
